The Film Office is an advocate for all kinds of productions, from major feature films and television series to commercials, music videos, documentaries and student films. We provide permits and many services to assist your project, and we look forward to working with you.

Permit Applications

Filming in San Francisco requires the submission of a Use Agreement (pdf). All paperwork must be received no less than 4 business days prior to filming. We are able to work with emailed Use Agreements, but the original forms must be sent to our office prior to first shooting day.

Student Filming Procedures

The San Francisco Film Commission works with local film schools to assist students looking to permit film projects in the City. A student project is defined as a class assignment that is provided insurance coverage by your university.
